I love Craigslist. I have bought things I have needed at great discounts and sold ‘stuff’ for extra cash. I have never thought about trading anything on Craigslist – not like 17 year old Steven Ortiz. Ortiz was given a cell phone by a friend, which he traded on Craigslist for an Ipod touch. He continued trading the Ipod for a dirt bike and then a Mac Pro laptop, back to a dirt bike, and over a two year period eventually traded up to a 1975 Ford Bronco, which turned out to be a collectible. One collector offered to swap his 2000 Porsche Boxster for the Bronco, and it was more than a 17 year old boy could turn down. That is pretty impressive.
So I started thinking what do I have to trade? What is it that I have no need of? What about you? Are you interested in trading up? I’ve started a list of the things that I want to trade up. And I don’t think it will be nearly as complicated as Steven Ortiz’s trades. Perhaps you can create a similar list.
I’m trading my guilt and shame for the forgiveness of Jesus.!
I’m trading the strife in my life for the peace of God!
I’m trading my sorrows for the joy of the Lord!
I’m trading up my earthly home for a mansion over the hilltop!
I’m trading my despair for a Living Hope!
I’m trading my vision for the eyes of Jesus!
And I am trading in my blueprints for God’s plan for my life!
Wow. How great is our God that He will trade our trash for his riches of grace. Where else could you exchange a sin-ridden soul, headed for hell, for a blood-cleansed, spotless Holy Spirit-sealed soul, destined for eternity with the Father?
I will take that trade any day! How about you?
